The VAT return is a periodic compilation where taxpayers must report all taxable transactions performed in a country during the reporting period. In case no transactions were performed in a given period, a nil VAT return must be submitted.
Deadlines and Frecuency
The deadline to submit periodic VAT returns in Cyprus is by the 10th day of the second following month after the reporting period – either monthly or quarterly-. The specific quarters may vary depending on the company’s activity, e.g., for the Q1 could refer to Jan-March, February-April, and April-May. The tax authorities have created three groups belonging to different quarter periods to distribute the companies: retailers, industry, and services.
If your Cypriot VAT return results in a payable amount, the deadline for making the payment is the same as the return submission deadline. There are several options to make VAT, like online payment or payment through Cypriot commercial banks; however, foreign VAT taxpayers will usually make a bank transfer following specific payment details provided by the tax authorities after submitting the VAT return. Marosa will provide you with updated payment instructions every reporting period you need to make a VAT payment.
If your Cypriot VAT return results in a credit position, the excess of input VAT, as general rule, must be carried forward at least until the last reporting period of the year where it originated. Other conditions also apply to request a VAT refund. Your Marosa team will provide you with the necessary information and guide you through the required steps.
